Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re unable to find the answer to your question on our website, please contact us using the form on our Contact page. We’d love to help!
+ I found a stray, what do I do?
Contact your local animal control. This allows the owners to find their lost pets.
+ How do I adopt a cat I saw at a pet store?
Petsmarts are able to assist you with the adoptions in their stores. Find an employee and ask for assistance. We do not hold animals. We’re looking for the best fit for the animal. Chuck and Don’s in Elk River, store management can assist with the adoption process. People adopting from the Petco in Fridley and Coon Rapids; Chuck and Don’s in North Oaks, Blaine, and Coon Rapids will need to fill out an adoption application. AOH will process the application and will reach out to you.
+ Can I get a discount if I adopt more than one animal?
No discount is offered on multiple adoptions but we do discount adoption fees for our harder to place animals or animals who have sponsors.
+ How do I set up a meet and greet with a foster home?
Complete an adoption application. Someone will reach out to you to set up a time.
+ How do I adopt an animal from AOH?
You’ll need to complete an adoption application. Visit our How to Adopt page for more information.
+ My adopted pet is sick, what do I do?
Your adoption contract says you must take your animal to the vet within the first two weeks for an exam. If the vet finds anything, and gives you a prescription, contact AOH to see if we are able to provide your pets medication. We will not cover expenses that have not been pre-approved through AOH.
+ How do I volunteer?
You’ll need to complete a Volunteer Application. Someone from AOH will contact you.
+ What kind of volunteers are needed?
Visit our Volunteer page to apply, see our list of needs, and how you can help.
+ How do I donate to AOH? What are AOH’s needs?

+ I need to give up a pet, what do I do?
Fill out an AOH surrender application. If we have an opening in our program, we will be in contact with you. Acceptance into our program is dependent upon whether or not we have appropriate foster care for that animal’s needs and whether or not we have the resources necessary to ensure their health.
+ I adopted a pet from you that I can no longer keep. Help!
Fill out an AOH Surrender Application. Make sure you list Angel of Hope on the form to ensure the pet gets priority.
+ What if AOH can’t take an animal I wish to surrender?
When we don’t have any foster homes available to currently work with a pet, visit petfinder.com and search for local groups using your zip code. Hopefully you will find options to assist you.
